| Description | The Chinese made the first painted paper for walls. In the eighteenth century, many of their papers were brought to America by sea captains, and hung in the homes of prominent families. The original of the "Canton" was imported by Colonel Jeremiah Lee, a famous ship owner of his day. It was used in the decoration of his noted home built in Marblehead, Massachusetts, one hundred and eighty years ago. |
