Description | The Norton residence in Suffield, Connecticut, was the hiding place of this large vine of full tropical leaves. It was found in the attic of this home along with another early document, the "Londonderry" (8020). Both papers contain leaves of the same distinctive design, which makes it possible that they were originally planned as companions.
A similar leaf pattern with strong veins and moisture drops appeared in an English trade paper, "Journal of Design & Manufacture," August 1851. This record may indicate the approximate date of "The Norton's" origin. |
