DescriptionIn the little country town of Netherwood, not far from Poughkeepsie, New York, an old band box was purchased at an auction. It was decorated with this delightful pattern, originally machine-made. The first machine printed wallpapers of any importance were placed on the market in Darwen, Lancashire, England in 1841. Shortly thereafter, machines were imported to America. It is believed that the "Netherwood" was made in this country by a pioneer of machine-printed wallpapers.
