DescriptionThe Ames House in Wayland, Massachusetts, was the source of this unusual English block. The paper was found on the back wall of a small and deep cupboard. It was probably hung when the house was built in 1830, but being such a remote place, it withstood decorating changes. The town of Wayland is historically significant as the crossroads of two famous Indian paths in King Phillip's War. The Connecticut Path leading southwest and the Bay Path leading to Cape Cod made this beautiful old New England town the center of much fighting in that period.
