| Description | Sealed to today's living, this damask design was adapted from one made during the Italian Renaissance. The ancient Chinese wove the first damasks and exported them through the trading city of Damascus (whence the name). Later the weavers of that city developed their own industry using thread from China, until silkworms were smuggled out in the 6th Century and other countries began producing silk thus breaking the monopoly. |
